Best Makeup Trends from Fashion Week

Standard  has compiled its seven favorite trends from the runways at Fashion Week.

They range from a deep black/red vamp lip at Proenza Schouler to fluffy, Dynasty-style hair (while all else were showing sleeker hairstyles) at Oscar de la Renta, dark, heavy brows at Narciso Rodriguez — which we covered in an earlier post —  smokey eyes and tousled hair at DVF, and soft eyeliner around, not inside, the eye at Marc Jacobs.

Pick your favorite and make it your signature this spring, or try them all. All seven are surprisingly wearable considering some of the runway looks of past seasons.

Darker, Darkest

This season's dark brows.

Vogue shows the dark brow on the March cover.

According to makeup artists at New York Fashion Week, darkening the eyebrows — even if you’re blonde — is in. spoke with TeenVogue’s beauty editor Eva Chen and Tarte Cosmetics founder Troy Suratt after seeing Ashley Olsen sporting black brows and her usual highlighted blonde at the Olsenboye launch. Says Suratt, who’s worked with both Olsen twins,  “Darkening the brows is the perfect way to break up the face into thirds. Plus, it actually balances out a dark, solid lip without excessive eye makeup. You can leave the eye itself essentially bare. The key is to use a brow pencil, probably taupe – Kevyn Aucoin and Dior make great ones – to fill in any holes or gaps in the brow.”

A bold look for a fearless fashionista. But do practice at home a few times, particularly if you are blonde and fair. What’s typically expected from high-fashion editorial isn’t always a straight translation to the office.
