Ring in Spring: Bright Eye Makeup

Standard
Vanessa Hudgens' "Spring Eyes"

Vanessa Hudgens' "Spring Eyes"

Look at how fresh and “spring-y Vanessa Hudgens appeared at a movie premiere during the first official week of spring. A tawny swipe of coral shadow on her eyelids played up the orangey tones in her lipstick/gloss combination; a dusting of shimmery white shadow on the inner corners of her eyes added brightness made her expressive brown eyes really “pop.”

ColorOn's Sunset Beach

ColorOn's Sunset Beach

You can get the same look in a instant with colorOn’s Sunset Beach, a wash of beige and coral shadows reminiscent of a sunset by the sea, or Pink Lemonade, a sunny combination of yellow and coral that is as refreshing as a sip of lemonade on a bright spring day.

Pink Lemonade

Pink Lemonade

If you want a bit of eyeliner with this look, start with Coral Cove, a beautiful wash of summery coral rose and beige, with a subtle chocolate liner along the lash-line for a slightly more dramatic spring look.

Coral Cove

Coral Cove

Smooth Arctic Shimmer

Smooth Arctic Shimmer

Add a dusting of shimmery white to the inner corners of the eye for added brightness: Smooth Arctic Shimmer loose mineral pigment in a silvery white platinum, or Smooth Pearl Shimmer, a pure pearly white shimmer powder.

Add perfectly groomed brows, lots of black mascara, and a coral/orange gloss that picks up the coral tones of your eye makeup. Her skin looks dewy and perfect, and you can achieve the same effect with tinted moisturizer and a pale coral cream blush. Go easy on face; the focal points here are the eyes and lips.

Stay tuned – we’ll be introducing two new instant eye shadow looks very soon! Also, remember we’re offering complimentary gift wrapping on any order; no promo code, necessary, just choose the gift wrap option during checkout and it will be free!

See you Friday in the Winners Circle…

Look Like a Celebrity – Or At Least Like You Used Her Makeup Artist

Standard

With so many ways to follow fashion, hair, and makeup trends, we can all see candid shots of celebrities heading to and from BIG EVENTS on the Red Carpet, and probably buy every product used on her face from a website. We saw three celeb pictures recently and thought – you could do that in a minute with colorOn! So here are those celebrities, and how you could use colorOn…Professional Instant Eye Shadow Applicators to achieve the same fashion-forward look.

Kristen Stewart/Getty Images

Kristen Stewart/Getty Images

Kristen Stewart: Her mauve smoky eye is easily reproduced using El, which you can find in our Bestseller Variety Kit and Smoky Classics Variety Kit . El is a soft pink and chocolate brown that combine to create a smoky mauve just like Kristen’s. For additional “smoke,” consider lining the upper and lower lash lines with Smooth Black Star Red Shimmer loose pigment for more intensity. It is black-and-red shimmer than becomes a gorgeous dark golden lilac that will make green and hazel eyes pop. Set it with the included Get Set! Powder, and add plenty of black mascara. To complete Ms. Stewart’s look, groom your brows, add just the tiniest flush of mauve cream blush on the apples of the cheeks, and choose a petal-pink lip gloss that adds a small amount of shine and color, but stays very close to your natural lip tone.

Keira Knightly/Getty Images

Keira Knightly/Getty Images

Kiera Knightly: Ms. Knightly emphasizes her sultry brown eyes with a smoky bronzed look you can duplicate with colorOn’s Gypsy or Bronze Goddess instant eye shadows from the Metallics Variety Kit . Gypsy uses rich hues of cool shimmering mocha and a wash of frothy metallic white at the brow bone. Bronze Goddess is shimmery gold and glimmering deep brown that combine to create a warm bronzed look. If you want additional “smoke” with this look, add our Smooth Black Star Gold Shimmer loose pigment as an eye liner above and below the lash lines for more intensity. Its combination of black, brown, and gold will shimmer it up to the next level. Like Ms. Stewart above, Ms. Knightly keeps the rest of her makeup at a minimum: groomed brows, a swirl of peachy blush, and nude lip gloss.

Frieda Pinto/Getty Images

Frieda Pinto/Getty Images

Frieda Pinto: Ms. Pinto is right up to the minute in her sparkling denim-blue eye shadow, which she wears only on the lids and blended in to the crease so that it doesn’t overwhelm her gorgeous skin and cognac-colored eyes, or fall into the old “sparkly blue shadow” trope. ColorOn’s Avatare or Dusky Twilight (from the Painted Desert Variety Kit can be used from the lash line back into the crease, leaving the brow bone bare and a bright sparkling pop of denim blue with some added depth from other complementing colors that are part of each applicator. Instead of her black eyeliner, you might try our Smooth Black Star Blue Shimmer loose pigment, a steely midnight blue shimmer you can use to deepen the intensity, or Smooth Peacock Blue Shimmer to brighten it up. Groomed brows, tons of black mascara, and warm peachy blush and the same shade of lip gloss finish the look.

All of the colors mentioned can be combined and purchased as a Custom Kit, or you can instead buy the Variety Kit in which they’re featured. Either way, same price.

Remember that it’s free gift wrap time; all you have to do is choose it during the checkout process and it’s 100% free through Mother’s Day.

Eye Liner has Never Been So Easy

Aruba from the Flaunt Kit

Aruba from the Flaunt Kit

With all of the lined eyes walking the 2011 Fashion Shows from New York to Milan, you might think you need to brush up — or finally develop — your skills with eye liner. Although we liked many of the strong lip/nude eye and the many bare faces at some of the shows, we’re obviously fond of eye makeup, and have the solution to your “eye liner issues.”

ColorOn…Professional has 18 different eye looks that have eye liner built into the application, and those eye liner colors range from chocolate brown to bright purple, and anything in between. Some are meant to add color along the lash line, and others have a heavier, graduated liner that creates more of a “Cat’s Eye” look. All of them are beautiful, and a snap to use.

Bermuda from the Flaunt Kit

Bermuda from the Flaunt Kit

If you like Caribbean-inspired colors for spring, we offer Bermuda, Barbados and Aruba, which can be bought separately or combined into the Eye Envy Flaunt Kit. Aruba is gradient tan and brown with bright sweep of bright purple liner; Bermuda is a yummy pink and creamy beige topped with a dark chocolate liner; and Barbados is a smoky tonal of gradient light and medium olive green with dark olive liner.

Dixie Dust from the Dreams Kit

The Dreams Variety Kit contains looks with a much heavier

sweep of liner. Dixie Dust is smoky, tri-color wash in the rainforest shades of leaf green shading to leaf brown, with a swath of deepest olive eyeliner. Dreamweaver is a sexy gradient taupe shading to sunset coral, with a swipe of deepest chocolate brown liner. Fairy Dust is a sexy smoky eye in the surprising shades of dusky pink, smoky amethyst and a deep merlot liner. Majic Wand is a wash of the palest turquoise shading to a golden sand, with a swoop of sienna liner.

Sunset Romance from the Romance Kit

The Romance Variety Kit contains Coral Cove, Moss Romance, Summer Sky, Sunset Romance and Summer Peach, which have eye liners ranging from deep brown to lime green, cerulean blue and teal.

Back to the Future from the Odyssey Kit

Back to the Future from the Odyssey Kit

The instant eye shadows in the Eye Envy Odyssey Kit, Tame Machine, Into Orbit, Lost in Space, and Back to the Future are more avante garde looks, with pops of bright color as well as tonal looks, all with built-in eyeliner. Back to the Future is a complex four-color look comprised of champagne, taupe, doeskin and a shocking pop of brilliant turquoise.

Lost in Space from the Odyssey Kit

Lost in Space from the Odyssey Kit

Into Orbit is a structured combination of pale brown sugar, mocha, dark chocolate and milky chocolate layered across the eyelid to create a multi-tonal, complex look. Lost in Space — four colors, one look in shimmery pink, cobalt blue, dusky sapphire and hot violet. Tame Machine is frosty white, platinum, titanium grey, and sterling silver, sort of a smoky eye bling like the deep shimmery eyes at Chanel.

Mistletoe from the limited-edition Holiday Kit

Mistletoe from the limited-edition Holiday Kit

Finally, Mistletoe was created for our limited-edition Tinsel Holiday Kit, but sells so well that it’s available year-round in Custom Kits, as its glittering, prismatic wash of rich, shimmering gold and evergreen with a liner of pearly pewter grey is flattering with all eye colors.

Whether you choose a Variety Kit or pick and choose from these 18 great looks to create your own Custom Kit, the price is the same. Free shipping ends tonight, but we’ve got a new offer: Free gift wrapping on any order through Mother’s Day. This is a chance to have any item you order gift wrapped free, whether it’s for Mother’s Day, bridesmaid gifts, prom gifts, or any other occasion. No promo code is needed; just choose gift wrapping during check out and it will be free!

Happy Friday, colorOn eVIPs! Does it seem like there’s a Fashion Week somewhere EVERY week? Right now, it’s Paris and Milan, and we took note of a few interesting looks you can easily reproduce. We’ll take Paris apart next week!

One thing were noticing is the distinct lack of mascara at all the Fashion Week shows this season. Eye makeup is either precise or very smudgy, deeply smoked or just washes of color – not much in the middle ground. Here are a few of our favorites:

At Missoni, MAC makeup artist Lucia Peroni said that the Quentin Tarantino movies Pulp Fiction, Wild At Heart, and True Romance, were the inspiration. Matte skin was the base, with a little highlighter added to cheeks and pale shimmers on the eyelids. This season strong lip was evident, created with MAC’s lip pencil in Beet blended with a deep, dark red wine shade of lipstick called Media. Eyelashes remained bare, with eyeliner smudged around the sockets. You can create these eyes using colorOn Instant Eye Shadow Applicators in El, Coral Cove or Pink Lemonade, using the extra creamy pigment left on the protective cover and a brush to smudge the same color under your eyes. Then you can pick your statement lip that goes best with your coloring: Deep Plum, Crimson, Brick Red, Wine.

At Jil Sander, Chanel’s director of beauty, Peter Philips, was given reference shots from Fifties lifestyle magazines featuring sporty ladies. Clean streaks of bold color on lips and eyes were the result. Alabaster skin was created with Chanel foundation, and Philips drew an aerodynamic line using a aqua/jade Chanel eye pencil above the upper lash line. Lashes were curled, but no mascara was used. A bold lip was “perfectly drawn” using the line’s  Rouge Allure red lipstick in Enthusiast, with its slightly orange-y undertones. For this same bright eye, try colorOn’s Key West instant eye shadow, keeping the color mainly to the eyelid from crease to lashline.

At Roksanda Ilincic, “Glamazon” was makeup artist Lucia Pica’s vision for models dressed in the designer’s luxury fabrics and rich autumn shades.

Key here was a dramatic, elongated eye defined with a black gel eyeliner and an ochre brown eye shadow. Cheeks were contoured with a dark foundation stick and highlighted with an icy beige cream-colored base.

Lips got a rich chocolate-brown, custom-made hue, a mix of several glosses, MAC Film Noir lipstick and MAC Cork lip liner. You can achieve the same earthy eye with colorOn’s instant eye shadows in 14-Karat, Bronze Goddess, Gypsy, or Lava, depending on your skin tone and the intensity desired. Again, use the excess pigment on the applicator cover to blend the creamy mineral shadow under your bottom lash line. These four shades come together in the Metallics Variety Kit.

And of course, we have a winner in Friday’s Winner Circle drawing. Kleydis Cuadra of Brooklyn New York wins her choice of a pre-selected Variety Kit or a Custom Kit with an array of the colors we mentioned in this post.

Have gorgeous weekend!

Winning Eyes: Best Eye Makeup at the Oscars!

Standard
Jennifer Lawrence/InStyle.com

Jennifer Lawrence/InStyle.com

The 2011 awards season came to a close Sunday night with the “Big Kahuna,” The Academy Awards. All the other shows, no matter what anyone says, are just hors d’oeuvres before this celebrity bacchanal. This is the best dress, best hair, best makeup night, no matter how many other shows you’ve already attended or awards you’ve won.

Everyone pulled out all the stops, although many other bloggers have noted that while the gowns and makeup were stellar, the hair was just okay. But since we’re all about eyes, let’s talk about what we think were the two best eye-makeup looks of the night: Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Williams.

First-time nominee Jennifer Lawrence’s eyes were the focal point, with her hair in loose waves, and dressed in a simple red Calvin Klein gown. Makeup artist Jillian Dempsey played them up with lots of mascara and sultry black liner, layering four neutral tones from blush to deep plum into a sculpted and structural eye that still managed to feel soft and smudgy. You can get the same look by choosing colorOn’s El instant eye shadow applicators, and then increasing the intensity at the lashline above and below the eye with our Smooth Black Star Red Shimmer, a black and red shimmer than becomes a dark golden lilac. Groomed brows, just a hint of plummy blush and glossy pinkish lips, and you can look like this up-and-coming star.

Michelle Williams/InStyle.com

Michelle Williams/InStyle.com

At the other end of the spectrum is the ethereal eye makeup on Michelle Williams, dressed in a bone-white, crystal encrusted Chanel dress. With her super-fair skin and platinum blond hair, her makeup artist Jeanine Lobell added subtle color to her face. Smudging a sparkly pewter eye shadow on the top and bottom lashlines, she added a few faux lashes, and finished with a dusting of sparkly white shadow. Adding a drop of foundation to the star’s pink lipstick helped make “the lips a part of the face, not a separate statement.” You can create this same eye look starting with colorOn’s Platinum and Pearls instant eye shadow applicators, adding more sparkle by using our Smooth Patina Silver Shimmer below the bottom lashes, and dusting the lids with Smooth Arctic Silver Shimmer, a silvery white platinum shimmer.

We’ll be back Friday with this week’s Winners Circle drawing. Ciao, bella!
