As the summer issues of the fashion glossies hit the stands, we’re thinking about all the summery makeup we’re seeing at movie premieres and celeb events, and one look that stood out was the flip sides of the same coin – as pastel teal/seafoam green, done in a bright matte on Ginnifer Goodwin at The Met Costume Ball, and on Jena Malone in a shimmery wash at the premiere of her film Sucker Punch.
Ginnifer Goodwin “hit the matte” at the 2011 Met gala with nary a bit of glitter or shimmer in her opaque eye makeup, all the better to set off her jade gown and turquoise-and-jade jewels. You can create the same intense pastel opacity with colorOn’s Key West instant eye shadow, from the Eye Envy Tropics Variety Kit. The gradient light to deep teal should be used from above the crease down to the lash line, concentrated in the inner corners and below the lash line as well, and set with our matte Get Set! Setting Powder #1. It’s a bold look, so stick with a strong, groomed brow and keep the rest of the face bare of all but the most minimal concealer, cream blush and nude gloss.
At the other end of the reflective spectrum is Jena Malone’s chromatic seafoam eye makeup. A much less dramatic look, it can be achieved by using colorOn’s Camera Ready instant eye makeup from the lid up above the crease to the brow bone below well-defined brows. Camera Ready is a glittery prismatic combination of reflective sapphire shading to platinum to crushed mint for a wash of…seafoam, especially when set with our shimmery Get Set! Setting Powder #2. This more subtle wash of eye color allows for more color on the face, like this pale pink shimmer on the cheeks and lips.
