ColorOn really IS water-resistant! Makeup artist and photog Dani Buljan's work using ColorOn.

It’s hard to believe July’s coming to a close and school begins in a few short weeks. While that provokes groans from the students, for the rest of us it signals that we’re on the down side of the heat and that much closer to the start of cooler weather. The next round of fashion magazines that drop into our mailboxes will be those behemoths full of fall fashions and hundreds of pages of advertising; no doubt Vogue will once again break its own record for ad pages and sheer weight.

In this week’s blog, we introduced you to Brazilian photographer and makeup artist Danielle Buljan, and showed you her artistry with ColorOn…Professional. We hope that next week we’ll be featuring Indian makeup artist Manishi Jain’s interpretations of ColorOn as influenced by her culture and beauty references. And we invited any of you who are professional makeup artists using ColorOn in your work to send us your photographs, so we can feature you in a future blog. Email your work to our PR firm at ko@alchemycommgroup.com, and be sure to tell us a bit about yourself and what ColorOn products you used.

Aside from the obvious reasons to love Fridays, we have the honor of giving away a free 10-application Custom Kit to a lucky eVIP member we draw at random. Today’s newest member of the Winners Circle is Lynette Allen of Mableton, Georgia. She’ll be watching her mailbox next to see what beautiful surprise we send her. We’re encouraging our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products.

In the meantime, stay cool, and have a beautiful weekend!

ColorOn, with Sensual Brazilian Style!

ColorOn really IS water-resistant! Model wearing Barbados...

If you keep up with the ColorOn blog, you know we recently told you about our expansion into India, and you saw a little tease of the ColorOn makeup artistry of Manishi Jain, one of that country’s most famous makeup artists. That inspired us to ask other global makeup artists we know are using ColorOn to send us their work.

Meet Danielle Buljan, professional makeup artist AND photographer. A rarity in the world of fashion, Danielle came to the U.S. from Brazil in 2001, and says that, “My influence comes from my life experiences — and lot of Photoshop study!” On a recent swimwear shoot, she provided us with photographic proof of ColorOn’s water-resistant properties, as you can see from the photograph. The model is wearing Barbados, a smoky tonal look like the lush foliage of the Caribbean in gradient light and medium olive green with dark olive liner, from the Eye Envy Flaunt Variety Kit.

Bronze Goddess - the eye makeup and the model!

“Photography is about a vision that comes to life in a still frame,” Dani adds. “A photograph can speak a thousand words without saying anything.” In this next photograph, Dani used Bronze Goddess, a shimmery gold and glimmering deep brown that combine to create a rich bronzed look, from the Metallics Variety Kit.

As for her influences as a makeup artist, Dani gets her inspiration from strong and vibrant colors – like many of ColorOn’s instant eye shadows.

The multi-tonal look of Swept Away...

The multi-tonal look of Swept Away...

“Makeup is meant to be beautiful, and beautiful makeup is all about the colors you choose and where you place them – never about how much you put on.” Proving that point, the model in this photograph is wearing Swept Away from the Dreams Variety Kit, a wash of the palest turquoise shading to a golden sand, with a swoop of sienna liner for a warmly sensual look.

Hot Lava, cool water...

Hot Lava, cool water...

After arriving in the U.S., Dani worked as a specialist in makeup application skills and facial products for Lancome before moving on to Sephora, where she underwent intensive training in New York City and Miami and became a Color Expert. Now on her own, she combines her two passions flawlessly. The model in this last photograph is wearing Lava, a shimmering gradient black and gold metallic also from the Metallics Variety Kit.

If you are a professional makeup artist using ColorOn in your work, we would love to feature you in a future blog and e-newsletter. Between our Facebook fans and eVIPs who subscribe to our blasts, your work will be seen by over 5,000 fashionistas, other pros, and makeup fans. Contact our PR firm at ko@alchemycommgroup.com.

Remember that every colorOn instant eye shadow can be combined and purchased as a Custom Kit , or you can instead buy pre-made Variety Kits. Either way, same price. There are 78 instant eye shadow looks and 24 pre-selected Variety Kits. And stock up on the 11 Smooth Shimmers or 7 Metallic Glitters loose mineral shadows while you’re at it; some are limited editions and won’t be around forever!

We’ll be back Friday with a new Winners Circle announcement! Have a lovely day…

Beautiful, wearable makeup at Nina Ricci

Beautiful, wearable makeup at Nina Ricci

Today we have 100% humidity, the skies are a dark, thunder is booming but the rain hasn’t started, and it’s just another typical summer afternoon during the hurricane season in South Florida. We know the rest of the country is experiencing heat and record-breaking weather that no one could be prepared for, and we hope you are all safe, and that this Friday marks the end of a grueling week with the promise of relief to come.

Whether the weather is normal or giving you fits, we all move forward with a will, heading off to work, taking care of our families, planning weddings, attending business functions, planning vacations, trying to stay cool.

Color-blocked and laughable at Dior

Color-blocked and laughable at Dior

In this week’s blog, we offered a bit of escapism by showing your some bizarre and some beautiful makeup looks from Fall Fashion Week in Paris. Do check them out if you missed it; the wearable looks are perfect for summer, as the trend continues to be minimalist and natural (when it’s not downright weird, Dior).

And Fridays always shine for us when we get to give away a free 10-application Custom Kit to a lucky eVIP member we draw at random. Today’s newest member of the Winners Circle is Tracie Crew of Dallas, Georgia. She’ll be watching her mailbox next to see what beautiful surprise we send her. We’re encouraging our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products.

Well be back next week with more summer color trends, and perhaps some exotics looks from our Indian makeup artist, Manishi Jain. Stay cool, and have a lovely weekend!

The Best (and Weirdest) Beauty Looks from the Fall 2011 Paris Couture Shows

Color-blocked eye makeup at Dior

Rhinestones and glitter at Dior

Rhinestones and glitter at Dior

Doesn’t it seems that it was just weeks ago we were blogging about Spring Fashion Week? Yet here we are, with the Fall shows just ending in Paris, and New York is up next. So, we took note of some of the best – and some of the craziest – looks. And we’ll show you how to re-create the pretty ones with ColorOn…Professional.

One thing we noticed with the most wearable looks was that, like the Spring shows, there was a distinct lack of mascara, or the presence of very little, usually just the upper lashes. Eye makeup was either ruler-edge precise or very smudgy, color-blocked or just washes of color.

First, the interesting but totally un-wearable: Christian Dior. There were two very different looks on their runway: color blocked, or glitter and rhinestones. We can see reproducing the second look in an extremely toned-down version for a night clubbing, but no one here at ColorOn was willing to even consider color blocking as a viable look for anything other than Halloween. However, the shades used in the color-blocking are likely to make their way into shadow palettes the same way they did when Dior showed bright turquoise liner and vivid coral lips during the Fall 2011 shows last year.

Now, for something completely wearable.

Beautiful palettes at Nina Ricci

Beautiful palettes at Nina Ricci

At Nina Ricci, a beautifully arched and angled brow framed eyes shaded in tones of sand, beige, and gold. You can achieve this same tonal, gently smoky eye using colorOn’s Ibiza (smoky nude) and 14-Karat (gradient wash of rich golds from pale to bright 14 Karat), and lining under the lash line with either color, or using our Smooth Black Star Gold Shimmer (dark black/brown and gold shimmer) very sparingly for a slightly deeper tone. The rest of the skin is bare, with lightly flushed cheeks in a peachy shade, and a peachy pink matte lipstain or lipstick.

Ethereal looks at Valentino

Ethereal looks at Valentino

At Valentino, the look was ethereal, from the delicate crowns of golden leaves and pearls to the flushed cheeks and coral eyeshadow under natural brows. The color totally encircles the eyes from brow bone to lash line above and below, with a bit of gold shimmer at the inner corners, and mascara is used on the upper lashes only. To recreate this look, ColorOn’s Pink Lemonade (yellow and coral), Sunset Beach (beige and intense coral), or Coral Cove (coral, rose, beige with a thin chocolate brown liner) would be perfect, depending on the intensity of the color you wish, and a touch of our Smooth Monarch Gold Shimmer in the inner corners. A pale wash of pinkish coral blush and a lipstain or lipstick in the same family completes this look.

Soft yet precise at Armani Prive

Soft yet precise at Armani Prive

At Armani Prive, the eye was beautifully soft yet exceedingly precise, if that’s not a contradiction. The clothing and hats were so geometric that it called for soft makeup, and Armani’s textures are always some of the makeup industry’s best. A rosy shadow started below very precisely groomed brows into the crease, shading into a plum with hints of a blue under tone. A deep blue liner under the lash line extends sharply out beyond the corner of the eye – no smudging. You can achieve this look by starting with colorOn’s Finesse (rose and plush grey), then stroke our Smooth Purple Royale Shimmer (midnight-bright purple) loose mineral pigment on the lids to the lash line, and line under the lashes with a wet eye liner brush dipped into our Smooth Black Star Blue Shimmer (steely midnight blue) and wing it out beyond the corner of the eye. The rest of the face was porcelain perfect, with a shimmer of sheer pale raspberry lipstick. None of these looks called for a glossy lip.

All of the colors mentioned can be combined and purchased as a Custom Kit , or you can instead buy the Variety Kit  in which they’re featured. Either way, same price. There are 78 instant eye shadow looks and 24 pre-selected Variety Kits. And stock up on the 11 Smooth Shimmers or 7 Metallic Glitters loose mineral shadows while you’re at it; some are limited editions and won’t be around forever!

Eva Longoria, Christina Milian, and Heidi Klum all picked purple

Eva Longoria, Christina Milian, and Heidi Klum all picked purple

Last week we blogged about bright blue eyeshadow making a big splash during the spring runway shows; another was bright purple, from lavender to violet, from amethyst to plum. Here are three celebrities successfully wearing the trend: Eva Longoria, Christina Milian, and Heidi Klum. The trick with such a saturated color, which is beautiful on skins from the fairest to the deepest, is to keep the rest of the face neutral and natural – not matching lipstick or gloss, no bright blush.

Cactus Flower

Cactus Flower

ColorOn offers you a nice range of purple-hued instant eye shadow looks, from the sweetest daytime pastels to the deepest night skies.  For a sunny summer day, try Cactus Flower from the Painted Desert Variety Kit, or Laguna from the Bestsellers Kit. For a sexier look, try  Fairy Pink from the Dreams Variety Kita sexy smokey eye in the sunset shades of dusky pink, smokey amethyst and deep merlot.

Plum Passion

For a deeper plummy look, try Plum Passion from the Painted Desert Variety Kit. Create a dusky, doe-eyed look with this combination of a vibrant deep plum and indigo for a smoky evening look.

Finesse

Finesse

For a delicate pastel look, try Finesse from the Eye Envy Rhapsody in Gray Variety Kit. Finesse is a smoky sunset palette of delicate rose and plush grey that combine into a gorgeous gradient violet.

Amethysts and Gold from the Jewels Variety Kit is a prism of exotic purple and gold, with a hint of translucent pink that wears like jewelry for the eyes. In the same variety kit you’ll find a more day-wear oriented look, Amethysts and White Gold.

The other nighttime look is Lost in Space from the Eye Envy Odyssey Kit, four colors, one seriously intricate look. Shimmer pink, cobalt blue, dusky sapphire and hot violet combine into a bold look not for the faint of heart.

Friday + Fourth of July Weekend = Fun, Fireworks, and an Extra Day in the Sun!

For many people, this is THE official summer kick-off – we think it’s the fireworks. Whatever the reason, the Independence Day holiday is met with total abandon, so-bad-for-you-you-love-it foods (we’re looking at you, hot dogs), watermelon, wearing your bathing suit ALL day, the smell of sunscreen and mosquito repellant, backyard fireworks for days before and after, and that one huge amazing display in every city and town to celebrate America’s independence, and especially now, to celebrate our troops fighting for the freedom of others.

We’ve been showing you bright and pretty summer eye makeup hues in the blog, with the focus this week on “summertime blues.” Check it out if you happened to miss it!

It’s Friday, and we have a new member of the Winners Circle. Tomeka Bagley of Mount Enterprise, Texas, wins a free 10-application Custom Kit of our summer-proof, crease-resistant, water-and sweat-resistant mineral instant eyeshadows. She’ll be watching her mailbox next week to see what beautiful surprise we send her. We’re encouraging our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products.
