Summer Bronzer Isn’t Just for Cheekbones

Before we get to the “how to recreate that celebrity look” part of the blog, we want to share a link to a very nice – and honest — review from the blog BEAUTY BESTIES. We love it when bloggers review ColorOn and post photos of the process and results – it’s the best way for everyone else to see how ColorOn works, and how easy it is to “place, smooth, peel, blend, and set.” So, be lovely ladies and nip on over to Beauty Besties to read Michelle’s review and see her “after” photos.

Mila Kunis

Now, we have five celebrities sporting beautiful bronze-y eye makeup, yet all of them are very different. Perfect for summer, the bronzed eye can be worked into a monochromatic look like Mila Kunis, who looks healthy, sun-kissed, and simply amazing – or, at the other end of the spectrum, as a contrast to the palest of skins and a shockingly red lip as worn by Taylor Swift.

Bronze eye shadow is actually a wonderful neutral, which is why so many women wear bronzer on their faces all year round. It makes blue eyes pop, it brings out the dominant golden or green tones in hazel eyes, and its metallic shimmer warms up deep brown eyes. Note that every one of these stars has perfectly groomed brows, an absolute MUST for making statement eye makeup work, and for making a more casual face always seem pulled together.

Mila Kunis’ makeup artist (Tracey Levy working with Lancome) created her smoky eye by actually using facial bronzer as her shadow base, adding shimmering chocolate liner on the lids and black liner along the lash line. You can achieve the same look with ColorOn’s Bronze Goddess instant eye shadow from the Metallics Variety Kit, adding our Smooth Black Star Gold loose mineral pigment, a dark black/brown and gold shimmer, as a liner along the lash line and extended beyond the outer corners of the eye, as well as under the lower lash line, as Mila’s makeup artist did. Plenty of black mascara, beautifully bronzed cheeks, and a neutral, bronzy lipgloss complete the look.

Taylor Swift

Generally, the rule is a statement lip means flawless skin and minimal makeup on the rest of the face, and vice versa. But Taylor Swift and her makeup artist Lorrie Turk broke the rules beautifully for the 2011 MET Ball, combining a shiny crimson lip with dramatic lashes and bronze eye makeup. Why did it work? The brown and gold shadows were subtle and warm, making Taylor’s blue eyes radiate without competing with the glossy red lip. You can get the same look using colorOn’s 14-Karat, a gradient wash of rich golds from pale to mellow 14 karat from the Metallics Variety Kit, then adding a touch of our Smooth Black Star Gold Shimmer loose mineral pigment, a dark black/brown and gold shimmer, along the lash line and on the lids, accompanied by several coats of deep black mascara and your choice of a statement lip color.

Kristen Stewart

Although we understand that the upcoming spread in W is going to change how we think of Kristen Stewart forever, she’s never been one for over-the-top makeup moments, even on the red carpet. Here, for the Los Angeles Film Festival, makeup artist Fiona Stiles worked creamy bronze shadow into the top lash line, blending it upwards towards the brow bone before accenting it with a shimmery burgundy powder. You can create Kristen’s vampy look with ColorOn’s Gypsy, rich hues of mocha, bronze, and a wash of frothy white from the Metallics Variety Kit. Work the creamy mocha/bronze shadow into the top lash line, blending it upwards towards the brow bone before accenting with Smooth Black Star Red Shimmer, a black and red shimmer than becomes a dark golden lilac/burgundy depending on which ColorOn looks you’re using it with, dabbing it at the outer corners of the eyes and below the lower lashes to add more definition. Finish with tons of black eyeliner and vampy black mascara.

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn’s hazel eyes are perfectly complimented by eye shadows in shades of shimmery bronze, copper, and gold. Her makeup artist Uzo started with a beige shadow on the lids into the crease, then smudged metallic bronze under her lash line all the way up to the outer corners of her brows. Create the same bronzed look with ColorOn’s Bronze Goddess, shimmery gold and glimmering deep copper brown that combine to create a rich bronzed look, from the Metallics Variety Kit, using the extra creamy mineral shadow left on the applicator cover to line under the lower lash line, or use our Smooth Black Star Gold Shimmer loose mineral pigment, a dark black/brown and gold shimmer, along the lower lash line and on the lids, accompanied by several coats of deep black mascara. With eyes this sultry, the bold red lip might seem like overkill, but Olivia pulls it off, and you can, too.

Ashley Olsen

Usually, eye shadows with red undertones are considered a makeup mistake – applied by inexperienced hands, they can all too easily look like an eye infection rather than eye makeup. But the ever fashion-forward Ashley Olsen rises to the challenge, rimming her lash lines with an earthy, burnt sienna shadow. The overall effect is fresh and unexpected. If you want to try something similar, choose ColorOn’s Sunset Beach from the Bestsellers Variety Kit on your lids, a combination of beige and coral shadows reminiscent of a sunset by the sea, and bring it up into the crease. Then, use Smooth Sienna Shimmer loose mineral pigment under the lower lashes. Ashley tops it off with lots of brownish/burgundy mascara, which adds depth and brings a bronzed feel to the overall look.

Remember that every colorOn instant eye shadow can be combined and purchased as a Custom Kit or you can instead buy pre-made Variety Kits. Either way, same price. There are 78 instant eye shadow looks and 24 pre-selected Variety Kits. And stock up on the 11 Smooth Shimmers or 7 Metallic Glitters loose mineral shadows while you’re at it; some are limited editions and won’t be around forever!

We’ll be back Friday with a new Winners Circle announcement! Have a radiant day…
