Happy Friday! In this week’s blog, we focused on the silvery eye looks at he CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, spotlighting designers Tory Burch and Rachel Roy, and model Doutzen Kroes.

Ms. Roy, wearing her own designs in a palette of nude, white fur and a gorgeous hammered black velvet maxi skirt, created a smoky silver eye, starting with a base of silvered lids that swept into the crease, the inner corners of the eye and under the lower lash line at the inner corners. Then she added a deeper smoked silver to the outer corners of the eye and under the lower lashes, and either eyelash extensions or a strip of false lashes on top, and plenty of black mascara on the lower lashes. She also rimmed her lower lids with black eyeliner as well for an exotic look. Starting with ColorOn’s Platinum & Pearls instant eye shadow from the Metallics Variety Kit, confining the shadow to the lid and crease, then adding our Smooth Patina Silver Shimmer loose mineral pigment to the outer corners and below the lower lashes to create that shimmering smoky look, and add either a strip of falsies, or multiple coats of black mascara. She opted for a muted pinkish-nude mouth and glowing skin, letting her eyes be the focal point.

And last but never least, today’s winner of a free 10-application Custom Kit is Lateetha Inderkarran of Brooklyn, New York. She’ll be watching her mailbox next to see what beautiful surprise we send her. We’re encouraging our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products. And that goes for anyone who is using ColorOn – post your look to our Facebook page and tell everyone what colors you used. We’re a community, and it would be great if you shared your tips and tricks with everyone else!

Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll be back next week. And be on the lookout for an announcement of some very special Winter Kits, coming soon!

Silver was IT at the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

Last night’s 2011 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York were a huge success if judged by the high-wattage celebrity turnout at a fashion event. Calvin Klein (event keynote speaker), Anna Wintour, Olivia Wilde, Tory Burch, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Romijn and husband  Jerry O’Connell, Diane Von Furstenberg (current CFDA President), Alexander Wang, Vera Wang, Zoe Kravitz, Margherita Missoni, Lala Vasquez, Carmelo Anthony, Rachel Roy, Zac Posen, Ivanka Trump, Rooney Mara, and many more prestigious fashion luminaries and celebrities were in attendance. French designer Joseph Altuzarra was the night’s winner, honored for his promise as an emerging talent with both start-up money and a mentorship from fashion industry leaders.

One of the night’s hottest makeup trends was silvered eye shadow, worn by a diverse group of skin tones haircolors, yet all looking fresh and gorgeous.

Tory Burch: Fashion designer Tory Burch, who looked stunning in a Christopher Kane Kirsi dress (not one of her own?!) in black velvet with bright jade-green earrings. She confined the shimmering silver to her eyelids, sweeping it up into the crease but avoiding the brow bone altogether, then adding a swipe of black eyeliner to the outer corners of her eyes to enhance the lash line along with lots of black mascara on top and bottom lashes. She also brought a bit of the silver shadow onto the inner corners of the eye and slightly below the lower lashes for bright-eyed look. You can get the same look with ColorOn’s Platinum & Pearls instant eye shadow from the Metallics Variety Kit, using the extra creamy silver mineral shadow on the cover sheet and a small eyeliner brush to bring the silver shadow into the inner corners of the eye and below the lover lash line.

Rachel Roy: Another designer, Rachel Roy, also wearing her own designs in a palette of nude, white fur and a gorgeous hammered black velvet maxi skirt, created a smoky silver eye, starting with a base of silvered lids that swept into the crease, the inner corners of the eye and under the lower lash line at the inner corners. Then Ms. Roy added a deeper smoked silver to the outer corners of the eye and under the lower lashes, and either eyelash extensions or a strip of false lashes on top, and plenty of black mascara on the lower lashes. She also rimmed her lower lids with black eyeliner as well for an exotic look. Starting with ColorOn’s Platinum & Pearls instant eye shadow and also again confining the shadow to the lid and crease, add our Smooth Patina Silver Shimmer loose mineral pigment to the outer corners and below the lower lashes to create that shimmering smoky look, and add either a strip of falsies, or multiple coats of black mascara. You’ll note that in both of these designers’ looks, they’ve opted for a muted pinkish-nude mouth and glowing skin, letting their eyes be the focal point.

Doutzen Kroes: From designers to models, we have L’Oreal’s Doetzen Kroes wearing all of the same colors; they just look different on her lighter skin tone and blue eyes than they do on Ms. Roy’s gorgeous caramel skin and deep brown eyes. Use the same colors as you would for Ms. Roy’s look – Platinum & Pearls instant eye shadow and Smooth Patina Silver Shimmer loose mineral pigment. And once again, opt for the same glowing skin and pinky/nude lip, only this time with a gloss finish.

Other ladies who sported the silver: Redheaded model-of-the-moment Coco Rocha, actor Amanda Seyfried, designer Donna Karan, actor Jennifer Carpenter, and model-turned actor Rebecca Romijn.

We’ll be back Friday with a new addition to our Winner’s Circle. Have a beautiful week!

Winner’s Circle, and High Glamor at Glamour

Happy Friday, ColorOn fans. If you missed Wednesday’s blog, we focused on the Glamour Magazine’s “Women of the Year” Awards, and the gorgeous women honored. The winners ranging from actresses to singers to activists and politicians, Debbie Harry performed for a room full of A-list celeb presenters and attendees, and we picked the best makeup looks for you to try at home with ColorOn…Professional. Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, and Emma Stone had some of the prettiest and most wearable looks of the night — and the most gorgeous gowns.

Presenter Emma Stone, who wore an absolutely gorgeous pale green Grecian design by Lanvin, complimented her still-red tresses with a delicately bronzed eye, flushed cheeks, and rosy lips. To get the same eye look, apply ColorOn’s Bronzed Goddess from the Metallics Variety Kit with a light hand if your complexion is as pale as Emma’s (you can use a heavier hand the deeper your skin tone), rubbing a bit more at the outer corners to get a deeper color payoff.

She’ll be watching her mailbox next to see what beautiful surprise we send her. We’re encouraging our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products. Looking Glamorous at Glamour Magazine’s ‘Women of the Year’ Awards

The stars were out last weekend at Glamour Magazine’s “Women of the Year” Awards, honoring winners Jennifer Lopez, Chelsea Handler,  Tory Burch, Arianna Huffington, former First Lady Laura Bush and her twin daughters Jenna and Barbara, Withelma “T” Ortiz-Macey, Gabrielle Giffords, Lea Michele, Cindy Sherman, Esraa Abdel Fattah, and Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Gloria Steinem.

It was just as “glamour-ous” as you might imagine with winners ranging from actresses to singers to activists and politicians, with Debbie Harry performing and a room full of A-list celeb presenters and attendees, but we picked the best makeup looks for you to try at home with ColorOn…Professional.

Jessica Alba: Presenter Jessica Alba, who wore a sequined Tory Burch dress to hand the fashion designer her award, wore a modified smoky cat’s eye you can achieve using ColorOn’s Noche from the Smoky Classics and Bestsellers Variety Kits. The trick to achieving the same look is to place your ColorOn oval at an angle, dipping down a bit at the inner corner, and up at the outer corner, and confining your application to the eyelid and crease. No rubbing above there, or you’ll end up applying the creamy white mineral eye shadow, and the blending will dilute the depth of your black shadow. Gently blend only the edges of the black shadow so that your cat’s eye is not too severe, and use the extra creamy back mineral shadow left on the cover and an eyeliner brush to extend the shadow below the outer third of your lower lashes. Multiple coats of black mascara on you upper lashes, barely-there blush and a your-lips-only-better pinkish-nude lipstick complete the look, keeping this sultry eye the focal point.

Jennifer Lopez/Getty Images

Jennifer Lopez/Getty Images

Jennifer Lopez: Winner Jennifer Lopez, who wondered, “What am I doing here?” when presented with her award, looked stunning in her Versace gown slit up to there. Her extremely conservative hair (this is, after all, Jennifer Lopez) showed off the Fall trend of much heavier brows, which she set off beautifully with silvery eye makeup, perfected skin, and slick of candy pink gloss. To get the same eye look, start with ColorOn’s Platinum & Pearls from the Metallics Variety Kit, and if you want more shimmer, add our Smooth Patina Silver Shimmer at the inner corners of the eye.

The Formal Smoky Eye and Friday’s Winner

Standard
Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan

At the recent 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala, actor Carey Mulligan looked stunning with new platinum streaks in her cropped hair, which was swept off her face to reveal strongly defined brows and a very formal smoky eye. Her makeup artist, Georgie Eisdell,  says, “I wanted Carey to stand out. It had to be all eyes, eyebrows and perfect skin.”

You can achieve the same eye look with ColorOn’s Noche instant eye shadow from the Smoky Classics and Bestsellers Variety Kits, confining the deepest black mineral shadow to the eyelid, and rubbing more lightly above the crease for the  lightest application of the white shadow that comprises Noche. Multiple coats of mascara on the upper lashes, well-defined brows that are lengthened a bit for the extra drama, perfected skin, and a neutral rosy lip complete this elegant look.
