Winner’s Circle and Happy New Year from ColorOn…Professional!

Standard

It’s our last post, and our last Winner’s Circle drawing of 2011! The year has flown by for us, and we’re looking forward to an amazing 2012, with new product debuts and plenty of special themed kits and looks, like this year’s Valentine’s collection, the metallic prismatics, the full-face Halloween kits, and the two Winter Holiday kits. Our inventor and creative director, Irina Iosilevich, is forever at work coming up with new designs and new color combinations influenced by what’s coming down the runways during Fashion Weeks, the fine arts, photography, textiles, and so many other sources of inspiration. She truly embodies the “creative” in her title!

If you missed Wednesday’s blog (we know, it’s a vacation week!), we showed three great celebrity looks for New Year’s Eve for those of you who were not able to get your Winter Holiday Kits in time, or wanted something more traditional than the photorealistic looks from the mysteriously lacy Winter’s Veil Variety Kit or the almost Pucci-esque Diamonds on Parade Variety Kit.

Lea Michele's "Alternative" Smokey Eye

Lea Michele’s “Alternative” Smokey Eye

Lea Michele: The Glee actress wore an “alternative” smokey eye comprised of beige-y, cool brown in shades lighter than her deep brown eye color, breaking the traditional look where the colors are as dark as or darker than the iris. It allows you to appreciate her soulful brown eyes, beautifully arched brows and lush lashes, yet is still very sexy and smokey.

Desert Sands

Desert Sands

Use ColorOn’s Desert Sands, a sandy wash of cool beige and a deeper doe brown, from the Painted Desert Variety Kit to get the same look for brown eyes; the other four colors in the kit may be used on brown, hazel or blue eyes for the same lightly smoked look. Cactus Flower will look beautiful with any eye color. Try Plum Passion to bring out hazel or green eyes, Desert Sands to make blue eyes pop, and Dusky Twilight or Amazon as alternatives for hazel-to-brown eyes.

Jessica Biel: Red Hot and Golden

Jessica Biel: Red Hot and Golden

Jessica Biel: Justin Tmberlake’s significant other chose to focus on her gorgeous pout by painting it a show-stopping shade of vivid red, with very precise lines and a touch of shine. With this kind of statement lip, the rest of her face was lightly enhanced with barely-there foundation and lightly flushed cheeks.

Holiday Riches shadow oval

Holiday Riches shadow oval

As for the eyes, we have groomed but not heavily powdered-or-penciled brows, a single coat of mascara, and a subtle gold eye shadow from lash line to crease, with a small amount drawn as well under the outer corners of the lower lash line. You can get the same look with Holiday Riches, a gradient wash of golden glitter shadows, from pale to pure 14-Karat WOW, from ColorOn’s 2010 Eye Envy Tinsel Holiday Variety Kit, using some of the creamy mineral makeup left on the cover sheet to line under the lower lashes with a thin eyeliner brush.

That’s two beautifully sophisticated looks, one accenting the eyes, the other the lips. Now, what if you’re not going on a major date (and that can be with a spouse, a potential spouse, spouse material, or just a FWB) or to a swank party? Well, then you turn to one 2011’s best-selling female vocalists, and a woman know for making makeup FUN.

Katy Perry Looks Amazing!

Katy Perry Looks Amazing!

Katy Perry: Normally, Mrs. Russell Brand can be counted on for something so over the top it often qualifies for Halloween and/or Drag Queen makeup, but since her latest haircut and color metamorphosis, she looks delicately beautiful. And Katy’s no slouch when it comes to changing her makeup to match her haircolor. Her brows are the right color (a few shades darker than her hair), nicely groomed and filled in, and she’s chosen a shimmery gold eye shadow with  rosy undertones, a swipe of shimmery grey eyeliner, and her trademark multiple coats of mascara.

Scarlet Princesss shadow oval

Scarlet Princesss shadow oval

You can get the same eye look with our Scarlet Princess instant eye shadow, which is only available in the Custom Kits. It’s a combination of shining gold and shimmering bronze shadows with an anthracite eyeliner.

And finally, our last eVIP of the year to be pulled at random into the Winners Circle for a free 10-application Custom Kit is Heidi Ibarra of Houston, Texas. She’ll be watching her mailbox next to see what beautiful surprise we send her. As always, we encourage our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products.

We’ll be back next year, ColorOn fans. Thank you for all your support and great comments on our Facebook wall, your follows on Twitter, and your eVIP memberships. Wishing you a very Happy New Year from everyone here at ColorOn…Professional.

Looking Hot on New Year’s Eve with ColorOn!

Standard
Lea Michele's "Alternative" Smokey Eye

Lea Michele's "Alternative" Smokey Eye

Now that the gift-giving holidays have passed, we hope that you already have your new Winter Holiday Kits on hand and your New Year’s Eve look completely planned out, whether you’ve opted for the mysteriously lacy Winter’s Veil Variety Kit or the almost Pucci-esque Diamonds on Parade Variety Kit. But just in case you’re still undecided, here are a few celebrity looks you ca easily reproduce with ColorOn instant eye shadows you may already have in your personal collection!

The Alternative Smokey Eye: Glee Actress Lea Michele compliments her soulful brown eyes with a smokey look that is actually lighter than her eye color, using brown shadows with a bit of a cool undertone. It’s a much softer look than the traditional ultra-dark colors typical of a smokey look, but it allows you to really appreciate her lush lashes and  perfectly groomed brows. Try ColorOn’s Desert Sands from the Painted Desert Variety Kit, multiple coats of mascara, a light sweep of bronzer from the tops of the cheekbones up to the temples instead of blush, and a rosy pink cream lipstick, and you will not lack for attention!

Jessica Biel: Red Hot and Golden

Jessica Biel: Red Hot and Golden

Golden Eyes and Red-Hot Lips: Jessica Biel beautifully proves the adage that you pick one feature to highlight, and lightly enhance the rest of the face.

She’s opted to wear a bold, precise statement-red lip, complimenting it with barely there foundation and lightly flushed cheeks. As for the eyes, we have groomed but not heavily powdered-or-penciled brows, a single coat of mascara, and a subtle gold eye shadow from lash line to crease, with a small amount drawn as well under the outer corners of the lower lash line.

You can get the same look with Holiday Riches from ColorOn’s 2010 Eye Envy Tinsel Holiday Variety Kit, using some of the creamy mineral makeup left on the cover sheet to line under the lower lashes with a thin eyeliner brush. Use one of the myriad 24-hour lip colors on the market — the ones with the opaque lip color at one end and the glossy topcoat at the other, and never worry about reapplying or leaving those awful lipstick marks on champagne flutes. BTW,  we’ve found Revlon’s and MAC’s to be the best-wearing, and here’s another hard-learned lesson: never, ever choose one with a hint of shimmer! They haven’t nearly the staying power, regardless of the brand or pricetag.

That’s two beautifully sophisticated looks, one accenting the eyes, the other the lips. Now, what if you’re not going on a major date (and that can be with a spouse, a potential spouse, spouse material, or just a FWB) or to a swank party?

Katy Perry Looks Amazing!

Katy Perry Looks Amazing!

Girls Just Want To Have Fun: Then, we must look to none other than Katy Perry for our final New Year’s Eve look. Normally, Mrs. Russell Brand can be counted on for something so over the top it often qualifies for Halloween and/or Drag Queen makeup, but since her latest haircut and color metamorphosis, she looks delicately beautiful. As a natural blonde, it makes sense that even a peachy pink-tinged blonde would turn out to be her best color by far. We actually love the haircolor, even though we know it’s simply the remains of the vibrant lavender pink her hairdresser couldn’t completely strip out, but it’s so pretty!

You can get the same eye look with our Scarlet Princess instant eye shadow, which is only available in the Custom Kits. It’s a combination of shining gold and shimmering bronze shadows with an anthracite eyeliner.

And instead of the often clownish colors she wore to offset the dyed black hair, she’s wearing a creamy pinkish/nude blush, and a peach/pink lipstick that picks up the tones in her hair.

We’ll be back on Friday with the last Winners Circle of 2011. Until then, have an amazing week!

Winners Circle, and Happy Holidays from Everyone at ColorOn!

Happy Holidays from CololrOn/Flickr

Happy Holidays from CololrOn/Flickr

To those of you celebrating the Festival of Lights, Happy Hanukkah! And to those of you who’ve either finished your Christmas and Kwanzaa shopping, or are facing the hordes looking for last-minute bargains, we also wish you the merriest, happiest of holidays from everyone at ColorOn…Professional. We’ve been working harder than those legendary elves to get all the Winter Holiday Kits orders fulfilled, so hopefully all of our warnings about the overburdened USPS got through and there will be many a happy fashionista exclaiming, “It’s JUST what I wanted!” when she opens her Winter’s Veil and/or Diamonds on Parade Variety Kit gift. Or, you forward-thinking party girls ordered your own variety kits in plenty of time for your office party, all of your holiday invites, and any of those special holiday dates. And of course, there’s the centerpiece of the Holiday season, New Year’s Eve.

And of course, we have the Winners Circle! This week’s eVIP recipient of a free 10-application Custom Kit is Jordan Harrell of Kingstowne, Virginia. She’ll be watching her mailbox next to see what beautiful surprise we send her. We’re encouraging our Winners Circle members to post their experiences on our Facebook Fan Page once they’ve had time to play with their new makeup, so that all of you get the benefit of real feedback on the products.

We’ll be back next week; have a beautiful holiday.

Movie Premiere Makeup, and Last Chance to Order Holiday Kits for New Years!

Standard
Charlize Theron/Getty Images

Charlize Theron/Getty Images

If were brave enough to venture into a mall or one of the bog box stores like Target, good for you! Hanukkah has begun, Christmas and Kwanzaa  mere days away, and you’re probably sitting pretty. Unlike some of us, who will be picking through your leftovers Saturday right before the stores close.

If you haven’t already ordered your ColorOn Winter Holiday Kits, you still have time to get them for New Year’s Eve celebrations, so don’t delay if you haven’t settled on your makeup look and need something with a real “wow” factor to ring in the New Year. Be sure to check out Winter’s Veil, Diamonds on Parade, and last year’s Eye Envy Tinsel Variety  Kits for inspiration.

In the meantime, we’ve seen some gorgeous looks at recent movie premieres and events that are just lovely for holiday makeup. Charlize Theron (Young Adult), Rooney Mara (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll (CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute) looked absolutely stunning at their respective events with very different looks, yet all playing heavy emphasis on their eyes.

Amethysts & White Gold

Amethysts & White Gold

Charlize Theron: The ethereal actress, who once again plays against type as a YA author without a single redeeming quality, opts for a palette of shimmery amethyst and matte plummy pinks. To duplicate her eye look, try ColorOn’s Amethysts & White Gold instant eye shadow from the Jewels Variety Kit,  a beautiful icy, sophisticated look perfect for all of your holiday activities with gradient shadows shading from pearly white to deep amethyst, with a sweep of platinum liner along the lash line. Perfectly groomed brows, perfected skin with a touch of a pinky-nude powder blush swept up to the temples, and an opaque plummy pink lipstick create a fresh yet sophisticated look.

Holiday Riches

Holiday Riches

Rooney Mara: How stunning she looks now that she has been able to abandon the extreme look required for the Lizbeth Salander character, most particularly the shaved eyebrows. With perfectly groomed, glossy black brows to frame her piercing blue eyes, all she needs is a touch of golden shadow on her lids — try ColorOn’s Holiday Riches from the Eye Envy Tinsel Variety Kit — multiple coats of black mascara, and a statement creamy matte red lipstick in a blue-based cranberry shade. Utterly dramatic!

Deborah Ann Woll/Fame Pictures

Deborah Ann Woll/Fame Pictures

Deborah Ann Woll: Our favorite True Blood redhead (sorry, Arlene!) paired an unexpected eye shadow choice with her ultra-pale complexion and fiery haircolor. The shade, somewhere between peach and rust, works because it echoes tones in her hair, contrasts startlingly with her skin tone, and is well diffused and subtle despite its startling shade.

Sunsset Beach

Sunset Beach

To create the same look, reach for ColorOn’s Sunset Beach from the Bestsellers Variety Kit, a wash of beige and coral shadows that blend into a peachy deep coral reminiscent of a sunset by the sea. A sweep of black eyeliner, black mascara, a bare touch of pale pinky coral blush, and a deeper, almost raspberry lip. Sounds like it shouldn’t work, and yet it does.

We’ll be back on Friday with the Winners Circle. If you’ve still go more shopping to do, be safe, and best of luck! Happy Holidays to all…

Looks for Your Holiday and Holiday Night; Holiday Kits

Camilla Belle, warm for day, cool for night

Camilla Belle, warm for day, cool for night

A warm look for day, a cool look for night; actor Camilla Belle nails it for the holidays, when you have to attend an array of events from the office party to something a tad more chic in the evening. We dip into last year’s holiday Eye Envy Tinsel Variety Kit for these two looks…

Holiday Riches

Holiday Riches

For Day: For this warm look, we turn to Holiday Riches, a gradient wash of subtle golden glitter shadows, from pale to pure 14-karat, perfect for wearing to an office function or anything that doesn’t feel like it needs “statement” makeup. You can play this up or blend it down to whatever level you most comfortable with.

She keeps the rest of her makeup in the same warm family with a subtle bronzer instead of blush and a creamy caramel gloss. Plenty of mascara balances out her ultra-groomed but heavy brows.

Silver Bells

Silver Bells

For evening, we go icy cool with Silver Bells, an icy wash of glittering silvery platinum shading to frosty snow-white pearl, perfect for attaining that Snow Queen look. Switching out palette over to “super cool,” she trades in the warm lip for a cool raspberry with very precise application of liner, lipstick, and a touch of shimmery gloss. The same black mascara and lightly bronzed cheeks play off the iciness of the rest of the look.

Happy Friday: Winners Circle, Down with Brown, Winter Holiday Kits

In case you missed Wednesday’s blog post, we extolled the virtues of brown eye shadow (not that blah neutral brown from the shadow quad you used for contouring back in the 80s). This is high-tech, richly pigmented, dimensional brown as fashion statement, exemplified by the lovely Dianna Agron of Glee. Wearing a single shade of non-metallic warm brown eye shadow — no harsh lines, no contour shades, minimal eyeliner, black mascara — the warm, almost plum/rust undertones bring out the green in her hazel eyes . Isn’t it refreshing when simple=sexy?

Getting Down with Brown

Standard
AXELLE/BAUER-GRIFFIN.COM

AXELLE/BAUER-GRIFFIN.COM

When you hear “brown eye shadow” it hardly conjures up the term “fashion-forward,” but today’s eye shadows are technological little miracles, and “brown” no longer equals “boring.”  Just take a look at Glee actress Dianna Agron. She’s wearing a single shade of non-metallic warm brown eye shadow, with the most intense deposit of color along the upper lash line and blended well to fade out by the time it reaches mid-brow bone. No harsh lines, no contour shades, minimal eyeliner — just a liberal coat of black mascara. The warm, almost plum/rust undertones bring out the green in her hazel eyes. Yes, sometimes simple really is best!

You can create the same tonal look with ColorOn’s Sunset Beach for hazel eyes (beige and coral that blend into a warm rust), Ibiza for blue eyes (beige and brown that blend into warm chestnut) or El for all eye colors (soft pink and brown that blend into a plummy cocoa).  All three can be found in the Bestsellers Variety Kit.
