Pantone may have selected “Tangerine Tango” (Pantone 17-1463) as the top hue in its Fashion Color Report Spring 2012, but will any of us REALLY wear orange eyeshadow for anything other than a) the shock value, or b) nightclubbing (or both)?
If you doubt us, checkout this snap of Christina Applegate wearing orange eyeshadow – it’s just not workable on its own. It will certainly show up on cheeks and lips and fingertips, but there is something much prettier, richer, and more wearable trending for the eyes: rose gold.
At the Versace Spring 2012 ready-to-wear shows, models were wearing rich-looking neutral golden and rose tones. It’s a surprisingly versatile and natural-looking color combination on many skin tones, and much softer than last fall’s deeper metallics. Very chic and Palm Beach-y at Versace, with varied intensities seen at Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, Marc Jacobs, and Vera Wang.
or 14 Karat, a gradient wash of rich golds from pale to 14 Karat, from the Metallics Variety Kit. For something with a more rosy base, try Sunset Beach, a delicate wash of beige and coral shadows reminiscent of a sunset by the sea, also from the Bestsellers Variety Kit.
Top lightly with our Smooth Monarch Gold Shimmer loose mineral shadow, a bright yellow-gold shimmer that looks like 14-karat dust. You can also dust a bit on top of your blush at the highest point of the cheekbone near the temple.
Groom the brows and eschew eyeliner, using your ColorOn instant shadow under the lower lash line as well, curl your lashes, and use a lengthening black mascara. The rest of the face is in tones of rose and gold, with a rosy blush with golden undertones, and rose/pink semi-gloss lipstick.
